The latest from PE Teacher and author

David Carney

Greetings PE Nation,

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you get time off with your family this holiday season. I want to start interviewing guests over these breaks, so make sure you sign up soon (link at the bottom). Check out my new and older podcast episodes, including Music Montages, Team Building Activities, Attention Grabbing Signals, interviews and more!

Some of the things I share are PE related, and some are not, but they can be if you use your imagination and creativity. Or, if you need a break from all things education, here are a few gems.

I hope you enjoy!

Dave

1-Teaching Strategy

I recently started blogging again on Medium. My first 2 stories are "Connecting Disney and Education", which is how I took in my surroundings and put a PE spin on it, and "Are You a Knuckleballer?", which is about sharing ideas freely with our Physed community. I'd love for you to follow me on Medium for new articles on PE coming soon. Check it out!

2-Book I'm reading

My wife attended a teaching convention in Orlando not too long ago. She came home raving about a keynote speaker named Ed Mylett. Knowing I love inspirational speakers and books, she bought me his book, "The Power of One More" for my birthday. It's easy to read and has lots of great concepts to improve your life and efficiency. Give it a go!

3-Documentary to check out

I know I talk about Kobe too much, but the 2008 Olympics was crucial to the USA basketball team. They performed poorly in 2004 and needed to come together to reclaim the gold. Kobe joined the team late, demonstrated what it took to succeed, and led them to a title. Watch "The Redeem Team" on Netflix.

4-Quote I've Been Thinking About

Robin Sharma is my favorite author and motivational speaker. I've been a fan of his for over 20 years. I think about this loosely-based quote for a long time now (with a PE-spin on it):

"Don't teach the same thing for 30 years and call it a career."

It reminds me to always be innovating, creating and changing for my students. Don't have a "greatest hits" menu of physed games. Don't keep doing the same old thing. Adapt and be the best teacher you can be for your students and yourself.

5-Question to ponder

Where can you find new inspiration? Go for a walk, go to a new restaurant, art museum, or other venue. Inspiration is everywhere!

If you'd like to share this or anything else about your PE program and would like to be a guest on the podcast, fill out the form below.

I hope you've enjoyed this 5-Boomer Friday. Let me know how I can make it more beneficial for you in the future.
